Riding in a Group
They say that everything’s more fun with friends, and that certainly applies to motorcycle riding! Not only does riding in a group make for a more enjoyable experience, but it’s also safer since you’ll have more eyes on the lookout for potential hazards and to support fellow riders. If you’d like to know more about riding a motorcycle in a group, check out this guide from the experts at Bartels’ Harley-Davidson®.
Preparation
Pre-ride preparation is always important, and that is especially true when it comes to group riding. Make sure all group members are on the same page when it comes to your riding plans. As always, you’ll need to pack your gear, perform a pre-ride safety check, and make sure that your bike’s fuel tank is full. If a group member’s brakes or lights aren’t working correctly, be sure to fix it before you head out.
Planning a Route
Last-minute changes to your route aren’t a problem when you’re riding alone, but not informing other group members about a change in the itinerary can result in some of them becoming separated from the rest of the pack. This, in turn, forces you to waste time trying to get everyone back together. Make sure everyone knows the planned route before you leave.
Know Everyone’s Riding Level
It’s very rare to have a group of motorcycle riders in which everyone is at the exact same skill level. It’s important not to push less experienced group members too hard by riding too far, too fast, or for too long. Remember, group riding is not a competition!
