Street Glide®

The Street Glide is a relatively new model, but it didn't take long for it to become a crowd favorite. Read on to learn more about this powerful bike, then see it in person at Bartels' Harley-Davidson. We proudly serve those in Marina Del Rey, Malibu, and Santa Monica, California.

History

Harley-Davidson released the first Street Glide in 1984, which was called the 1985 MY Harley-Davidson® FLHX Street Glide. It's powered by an air-cooled four-stroke 1337cc V-twin engine and offers 5-speed transmission and 50hp. Iconic aspects of this model include the fork-mounted fairing, passenger backrest, rear trunk, and lockable saddlebags. Many of the features focused on providing a comfortable ride on longer trips, which fit well with those who commute to work or go touring often. The Street Glide quickly became a consistent part of the Harley lineup, but it took until 2000 for the first major upgrade to occur. The 2000 MY Harley-Davidson FLHX Street Glide offered a 1449cc engine and 67 hp output. After that upgrade, the Street Glide would be upgraded about every five years.

The Street Glide is a versatile motorcycle. Some riders enjoy hopping on and cruising around town showing off its style. Other riders enjoy embarking on touring trips and soaking up new sights in cities far away. Whatever your riding style is, this motorcycle is ready for action. The design of the frame is intended to be a middle ground of weight. It's not so heavy that the weight slows you down, but it's not so light that it becomes difficult to control.
